CPS Houston Fabricates Gun Tubs for Battleship TEXAS

In late March 2026, we received two newly fabricated 40 mm gun tubs that had been removed from the ship before it became a museum in 1948. Certified Pipe Services Houston fabricated and painted these elevated tubs, generously donating their time and services.
These two gun tubs are for the two 40 mm mounts located on each side of the Superstructure Deck (one level above the main deck). If you visited the ship in years past, the two gun mounts were elevated about 20 inches above the wooden deck, with no platform beneath them, making the guns inaccessible for viewing and maintenance. These reproduction tubs will not only make the ship look more like it did in 1945, but also help us safely access 40mm mounts 5 and 6 for regular maintenance and upkeep.
The gun tubs will likely be installed on the ship in early to mid-May, when we return other equipment aboard via crane. The 40 mm guns will be reinstalled in the future following their restoration at an off-site facility.
