March 21st, the winds cleared to allow us to reinstall the battleship’s foretop. The 75,000-pound (almost 40 tons) foretop, which housed the primary directors for the 14” and 5” gun batteries, was removed for thorough repairs and restoration on December 9th, 2024.
The foretop’s repairs included major structural work, restoring watertight integrity, reinstalling historically accurate antennas and lights, and fully coating the inside and out.
The repair team, led and supported by knowledgeable BTF staff, includes welders, fitters, and painters from Gulf Copper Dry Dock & Rig Repair and generous support from T&T Salvage who donated the use of the crane barge, tugboats, and their crews you see doing the heavy lifting. The successful completion of these repairs ensures that Battleship Texas is structurally sound from top to bottom for her next 111 years.

The Battleship Texas is one step closer to moving home at Pier 15!
