This week, Gulf Copper’s outstanding crews continued with painting, steel repair, and carpentry activities. While our small maintenance team took a pause from our restoration shop to work on the ship this week.

The paint crew abrasive blasted and primed from the futtock platform (what we call the triangle deck) down through the Radar Shack, Sky Control, Forward Air Defense Platform, to the Flag Bridge. After getting all that primed they started blasting the Navigation Bridge.

The welders and fitters started repairs to the damaged steel on the stern exposed by abrasive blasting when it was painted. They are making good headway.

The carpentry crew continued to get wood down on the bow. We now have over 50% of the wood decking on the bow down and bedded into place.

A lot of wood getting fitted on the portside of the bow. Wood that is primed white on the deck is bedded and fastened to the steel deck. Wood that is bare is still being fitted and worked into place.

Our small but mighty maintenance/restoration team took a break from the restoration shop to spend the week closing tank hatches that had been open for observation.

As always, we keep steaming along with methodical, steady progress making this big beautiful blue battleship shipshape.
